Windstream has been working with educators for over 30 years developing curriculum and interactive demonstrations for the classroom, museums and non-profit agencies. 

We manufacture a 12v DC Educational Lightbox to be used in conjunction with our Human Power Generator. It is portable and easy to use. One simply cranks the generator and lights the bulb with human power.  The lightbox is voltage regulated.  This is a very important feature as no matter how hard a person cranks the generator, the voltage will be regualted at 12V and will protect the bulbs and circuitry.

The 12V Educational Lightbox holds two lightbulbs - one 13W CFL bulb and one 50W incandescent bulb.  While both bulbs provide the same lightshed, the compact fluorescent bulb is much easier to light.  This clearly demonstates the difference in energy required to light each bulb. There is a switch on the lightbulb that is pressed to switch between bulbs.  It is very important that the user stops cranking the generator before the switch is pressed between bulbs.  This prevents voltage spikes and damage to the regulator.

Please note: This display must be monitored to ensure that the switch is not pressed back and forth while someone is cranking the generator.
